The Draft

Every season the league will have a snake draft. Draft positions are decided by the draft lottery. Pre-Draft trading is allowed after the first season. See transactions for details on keeper & draft pick trading. All dates are determined from season to season.

The draft will be a live online draft regardless if there is a get together or not. Each pick will have a time limit. The draft will start off with a pre-determined time limit and if necessary be shortened by the commissioner per his discretion in the later rounds. If an owner makes a technical mistake on the app, they must notify the commissioner as soon as possible to rectify the issue. The commissioner may pause the draft at any time, for any reason including technical issues. Every season the roster will be evaluated to determine if any changes need to be made, which would impact the total number of rounds. There is no option to trade during the draft.

The BattleBowl Draft Lottery determines the order of selection for the upcoming season’s draft. Each team’s chance at the first overall pick is based on a weighted system designed to reward performance balance while keeping the process fair and transparent.

How It Works

Every team is assigned a weight that reflects its position in the standings. Higher weights mean better odds of landing the top pick. The system uses an exponential weighting model, which produces a smooth, realistic curve — dominant teams have very low odds, while lower‑ranked teams have proportionally higher chances.

Instead of “rolls” or multiple random draws, the lottery runs a single calculation for each team using a random number and its assigned weight. The team with the lowest resulting value wins the first pick. This approach ensures:

Mathematical fairness — every team’s odds are precisely proportional to its weight.
Predictable calmness — top teams rarely jump ahead, keeping results consistent with league parity goals.
Transparency — odds are published publicly before each draw.
